Woven by men and were embroidered by women by the Kuba people from the Democratic Republic of Congo these wonderful and textiles (“kasai velvet”) show complex interplay of geometric symbols.

They were viewed as a family’s economic status and were used in as parts of ceremonial dress. Often times, they were buried with kings and other persons of importance.
