Persian Keshan (220x133cm) circa 1970

This beautiful atelier carpet from the town of Keshan in western Iran features a number of animal motifs in a rather unique Paradise Design. Typically, such rugs depict a peaceful coexistence of various animal species (lions, gazelles) in a heavenly garden. In this carpet, the artist opted to display a more realistic and violent nature of this coexistence with predators hunting down their prey.
