Description
This is a lovely small-format Berber rug attributed to the Azilal Berbers from the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco
Azilal carpets are made by the Ait Bouzid, Ait Shokmane, Ait Bou Oulli and Ait Bougmez; they display some of the most abstract patterns that heavily influenced modern art
While at first sight, this rug may appear to be a pictorial representation of the mountains, Azilal rugs are for the most abstract and symbolic. In this case the V-shaped motif symbolises female sensuality and supplication for a healthy pregnancy.
